Local historian and author Sherry Fletcher and history buff Brenda Nelson present the history of this
important route.
January 22: Leland Pierce
Snakes, Turtles, and Lizards, Oh My!
From NM Game and Fish Leland Pierce will tell you about the reptiles and amphibians found in Sierra County. He’ll discuss the local threatened population of the Big Bend slider turtle, among others.
February 5: Brenda Nelson and Mario Portillo
Songs and Sagas of Sierra County
Local history buff Brenda Nelson and musician Mario Portillo tell the tale of Elephant Butte Dam and T or C, in narrative and songs of the day.
February 19: Durrae Johanek
Birding: What Bird Is That?
The birds of Elephant Butte. Park volunteer and birder Durrae Johanek discusses and describes the birds that are most commonly seen in the EBLSP area in winter.
March 4: Lauren Tierney
Botany: Nature’s Supermarket
Lauren Tierney identifies the plants of our area, and tells how they were used by the native peoples and in some cases, still are.
March 18: Joshua Frankel
Geology and Hot Springs: Rocks and Hot Water
Joshua Frankel tells of the geology of Sierra County and how it has affected and created hot springs that we all enjoy.
