Celebrate Earth Day in the Garden at the 4th Street Community Garden in Truth or Consequences, NM on Saturday April 23, 2022
We would like you to be a part of something new during our Earth Day in the Garden event on Saturday April 23rd starting at 10:30 AM – 3:00PM.
Every day is Earth Day and is a tribute to growing fresh, healthy produce for our community. The exciting thing is we are adding a new area for crops featuring the “3 sisters” (corn, beans, squash) to keep gardening practices with native seeds as close to the original way our ancestors gardened as possible. Utilizing corn, beans, and squash together in your garden draws upon centuries of Native American agricultural traditions and expertise. If you don’t know the story of the “3 sisters” please come learn.
Earth Day in the Garden is to help bring community together. Local organizations will participate to offer information on healthy living, sustainable practices, and community support. The NMSU Extension office will be there to provide mini-sessions covering beginner planting and nutrition elements of growing your own healthy produce. For your part of Earth Day, you can pay tribute by planting the 3 sisters’ seeds with us; participate in information gathering, finding some fresh produce, taking a tour of the garden, grabbing a flower seed ball and a cookie or just socializing with us.
