The one triathlon for the non-athletic (athletes welcome too)
This event will be held at the Elephant Butte State Park in the morning and wrap up that evening in downtown T-or-C. A early bird sign in will be held Friday evening prior to the event.
The morning events will get underway at 7:30 with a 5-wacky-task obstacle course and followed by an anything that floats race. These events will take place in the Rattlesnake Island area. The wacky tasks include a balloon toss (can you really hit the cat?}. fill a small paper bad with sand (did we say you have to do it with a slotted spoon), fill a small condiment bottle with lake water using a plastic spoon, chew a piece of Hubba Bubba bubblegum until you can blow a bubble, and a blow up the balloon (how good are your lungs).
That evening at 6 p.m. a 5-lap backwards marathon around the block housing the Visitor Center and Healing Waters Plaza.
At 8 p.m. there will be an awards ceremony at the plaza. The top three and bottom three in each of the 3 categories will receive a cash prize. The top five and bottom five in each category will receive awards. The first place winners will receive $100 cash. (In the family and duo categories that will be a total of $200 awarded)
Between the two events participants are encouraged to tour the downtown area as it will be Second Saturday Art Hop. A large number of businesses and galleries are scheduled to be open.
The categories are family, duo and individual. In the family category one person has to be over 16 and the other under 16 (the combined total will be used). In the duo, the best score of the two will be used. You are welcome to enter one additional category.
Each participant will receive a T-shirt in his or her size (choice of two styles), a goody bag with information about the area, and tickets for each of the two general meals as well as a $15 dining certificate for use at participating restaurants in the area. (Additional tickets for the meals will be available.) Only participants will be able to obtain the T-shirts.
A early bird sign in will be held Friday evening prior to the event. A sandwich and salad buffet will be available for entrants. Saturday morning a “everything you like” continental break will be available starting at 6:30. Instead of an awards banquet the dining certificate will allow you to eat dinner, lunch or breakfast on Cobble and Stone (the black lab mascots) through Sunday at 4 p.m.
There is a $65 entry fee for all adults and $50 entry fee for children in the family event. Additional categories can be entered for $30 more. Additional meal tickets are available for $23.
