Iris E. Stout—author of “Finding the Treasures Left Along the Trail..My Cherokee Heritage”—became a member of the Cherokee Nation in 1995, which intensified her desire to learn more about her Native American heritage. This book presents a historical account of significant contributions made by a family with roots in Europe and in the information seldom taught in American history classes in our public schools and sheds a very different view of the Native American society and its major influence on settlement and development of the United States of America. Even our egalitarian democracy came for the Native American (Iroquois) form of government.
